There are lots of great summer restaurants in Stockholm to choose from when you’re in the mood for some alfresco dining.
With locations ranging from in the middle of the city buzz, to more in tune with nature, these are 8 of my favorite outdoor restaurants.
What they all have in common is great food and an ambiance that will make you want to stay for hours.
Thaibåten, Skanstull

If you didn’t make it to any exotic place this summer, Thaibåten’s tropical vibe works as a good backup solution. Even if it can’t be compared to a week in Thailand (let’s be fair), this is the place where you’ll feel like you’re on holiday, even it’s just for a few hours.
Come here on a sunny day, take a seat in one of the sun chairs at the small, sandy beach, order a frozen something, and just appreciate how good life can be sometimes.
I once went here for a lunch with a friend, and we ended up staying for hours. It resulted in a night out until early morning the next day, but that’s a different story.
If you’re into Thai food and summery drinks, this is your place. Thaibåten also organizes events, ranging from yoga to The Thai Boat Goes Brazil (how creative?), and after-beach parties with reggae tunes.

Supper Gården, Centralen
Photo: Suppergården
It’s the combination of delicious food, good cocktails and a great ambiance that has made the outdoor restaurant Supper Gården one of my favorites in Stockholm.
Supper Gården is great for 1-on-1 dinners, as well as bigger get-togethers. I’ve been here with colleagues to celebrate, and with friends for casual dinners. It’s usually a good choice when there is something special going on, too. They did, for example, show the World Cup on big screens this summer. It’s a happening place, which makes it a good stop before going out.
The menu consists of a mix of Latin tapas. Don’t miss the slow-cooked chuck beef flavored with chocolate and chili, the marinated tuna or the sweet potato. Trust me.
Since the dishes are meant for sharing, you get good value for money in comparison with many alternatives in Stockholm, even though the drinks are on the more expensive side.
If you end up falling for Supper Gården, and the winter comes, don’t worry. They then move to their other venue Supper, which stays open throughout the rest of the year. Even if I prefer Gården, Super is charming as well and the food is as excellent.
You can and should book in advance, since it usually gets fully booked, especially during weekends.

Surfers Humlegården, Östermalm
Photo: Surfers
Surfers is a relatively new restaurant with food inspired by the Sichuan cuisine, a Chinese province known as a paradise for food lovers. This isn’t very easy to find in Stockholm.
In the summer, Surfers move to a small outdoor restaurant set in Humlegården on Östermalm. Styled with lights in different colors and lots of plants, it has that cozy vibe that just makes you feel good.
The Sichuan cuisine is characterized by lots of flavor and variation. While Surfers offers spicy dishes with a generous amount of garlic, chili and the distinct Sichuan pepper, you’ll also find alternatives with the perfect mix of sweet, sour, and salt.
I went with a group of friends and we ordered most things on the main menu, which consists of plates made to share. All of it was delicious, the pork ribs (‘Five spices pork ribs’) are addicting. Finish with an Apple Pie Cocktail. You’ll find it under Desserts for a reason. It really taste just like an apple pie, so good.
Reserve a table in advance, especially if you’re a bigger group. They always leave a few tables for drop-in guests, so if no tables are available, you can still show up and try your luck.

K4 Pampas, Karlbergs Strand
Photo: K4 Pampas
Come here for a brunch and you’ll be happy, and full, for the rest of the day. At least if you’re anything like me and eat (too) much when a buffet is served.
At Pampas, you’re literally sitting on a jetty, which makes it the perfect spot for a long summer brunch. You’ll have a beautiful view of the water and Hornsbergs strand. I’ve stayed here for hours more than once and even started my birthday celebrations with a brunch here a few years ago. There is a roof, so you can come here even if it’s raining.
The buffet features everything from BBQ (with chefs at the grill making sure that everything is fresh), to salmon, variations of cheese, charcuterie, and bread, waffles, desserts, juices, and so much more. It’s delicately presented, making you feel like eating everything.
The best thing is that you can.
K4 has 3 restaurants in Stockholm. I’ve only been to the one at Pampas, but will try the others next time I’m around. Stockholmers love brunch, and it can at times be hard to get a table when you walk in without a reservation. At K4 Pampas, this usually isn’t a problem since they have a large outdoor seating area, but it’s possible to reserve to be on the safe side.

Piren, Hornsbergs Strand
Photo: Pinerest, Piren
Piren is one of my favorite AW places. They have a few larger round tables, which makes it easier to talk in groups. It’s also a great place for business lunches, they even have a special menu for that.
Piren is especially beautiful if you come here for sunset. You’re right on the water and the views of Hornsberg are stunning.
The menu is best described as contemporary Mediterranean, and consist of a mix of everything from mussels to pasta, tartar beef, and salads. Everything is as fresh as it gets, and the wine menu is great.
Piren usually hosts events with different DJs and depending on the day, the music may vary between reggae, disco and lounge house.
It’s, in general, a quite popular place, so you should reserve a table in advance.

Indian Street Food, Hammarby Sjöstad
Indian Street food recently opened their 3rd venue, this time at Hammarby Sjöstad right by the water.
My friend and I went to their opening event. I’m not sure how I’ve missed this little chain until this point. I’ll blame it on that I’ve been living abroad for a while. They describe their style as modern Indian cuisine, inspired by food vendors on the streets of India.
From Achari Paneer Tikkas, to the Mumbai Samosas, and the Old Delhi Style Seekh Kebabs, and so much more, everything tasted amazing. We were in heaven, and so was everyone else at the event. Many told us that this is their favorite Indian restaurant in Stockholm. And we have quite a few.
I also like their focus on sustainable growth, ranging from how they source ingredients, to the fact that they are investing in India to contribute to the country’s growth.
Hammarby is an urban development project and Stockholm’s first eco-city district. I think it’s becoming more happening every time I go. Now there is a little malecon with restaurants and bar lined up along the water, which has made the area a great place for a dinner or a few drinks.

Svinet (The Pig), Old Town
Photo: That’s Up Stockholm
You can’t really tell how charming this restaurant is from the outside, which in a way makes the experience even better. Svinet is only open during the summer and when the weather is nice (in Sweden, summer doesn’t necessarily translate to good weather…).
Hidden on a rooftop in the Old Town of Stockholm, with colorful lighting and green plants that are climbing on the walls, Svinet’s setting is so more than you expect. It’s the perfect place for an intimate date, as well as a relaxed AW. Every detail has been taken into consideration and both food and drinks represent creativity and expertise.
The menu is concise and, less surprisingly, focused on pork prepared in different ways. This is where innovation and flavor come perfectly together and reminds you of that cooking is an art. The sides are seasonal and leave you asking for nothing more, apart from possibly dessert.
The menu changes continuously, but don’t worry if your favorite is gone. You’ll soon have another one. Check out the menu on their website to see what dishes are being served on which day, and make your reservation while you’re on it.
From August onwards, Djuret (The animal) takes over. Djuret is managed by the same owners and both restaurants have their focus on “innovative carnivore cuisine”.

Djurgårdsbrunn Värdshus, Djurgården
Photo: 10 things
Brunch is one of the best things I know. I love trying brunch places and think I’ve been to every single one on lists like Stockholm’s Best Brunch at least once. What better way to start the weekend, really?
Djurgårdsbrunn is a great little outdoor brunch getaway. Its idyllic setting let’s you escape everything to unwind surrounded by natural beauty for a while. It’s just you and a great variety of amazing food. Well, and a whole bunch of other people who are there to eat too, but you’re at least out of the fast-phased center.
Select from an all-you-can-eat supply of thin ribs, quiche, chicken legs, herring, feta cheese pastries, pork loin skewers, salads, macaroni gratin and so much more, combined with all the brunch classics such as bacon, scrambled eggs, omelette and sausages. There is a separate cheese station, a dessert table, and my favorite, cinnamon waffles.
Expect it to be crowded if the weather is nice. You can be lucky and get a table anyways, but it’s recommended to make a reservation. You can also come here and have something else than brunch. I’m sure the views will be as beautiful.
End with a walk from Djurgården to downtown, the views are pretty and will make you fall for Sweden if you haven’t already.
